Clem Molony announced the Port of Redwood City serving as host to an International <br />Port Conference as part of the efforts of the Chamber of Commerce, Economic <br />Development and the City's Economic Development. It is a technical conference <br />beginning on August 11 with attendees from Canada, Mexico, Asia and the West <br />Coast. Topics of discussion include Port security, economic development with strong <br />speakers such as Norm Mineta's Chief of Staff and Deputy Administrator for U.S. <br />Maritime Administration. He stated that Redwood City is one of the leaders on the <br />Peninsula in keeping the economy solid. <br />Tom Cronin, speaking as a CityTrees board member, stated that the organization is <br />an all volunteer non - profit organization based in Redwood City dedicated to planting <br />and maintaining trees in the city and educating the public about the benefits of the <br />urban forest. He stated that on August 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Stafford Park during the <br />intermission of Music at the Park, celebration of the planting of the 1, 000th tree <br />planted in 1,000 days. <br />Rudy Luca presented a letter to Council from Mayor Claire requesting questions <br />related to agenda items be asked of the contact person in advance of the Council <br />meeting. <br />Mayor Claire explained that standard operating procedure in most governmental <br />bodies and most private sector companies to use the Consent Calendar process. <br />The established procedure in Redwood City has been that if Council Members or <br />members of the public have a question on any item on the Consent Calendar the <br />question is asked of the staff member prior to the Council meeting. If after the <br />response there are still questions remaining, they may ask for the item to be removed <br />and /or discussed. <br />Nancy Terranova thanked Council for the time stating she lives near downtown and is <br />asking for action regarding the Tour de Peninsula that began at Sequoia High School <br />on Sunday, August 3. She stated that at 7:10 a.m. she was awakened by a public <br />address system well in excess of 90 decibels, and although a permit had been <br />approved, the noise ordinance states that if over 6 decibels above the ambient <br />regular noise levels, it may not be exceeded prior to 8:00 a.m. She asked that a <br />written reply would be appreciated. <br />6. CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Items on the Consent Calendar are considered to be routine by the City Council and <br />are be enacted by one motion and one vote. <br />Rudy Luca asked about item 6.1.E. — HSFA funding agreements — who is funding and <br />what the amount of assets is.
