• Organizes, directs, budgets for, controls and purchases for specific staff functions and subprograms such as nozzle maintenance, supplies, training equipment, breathing apparatus and various equipment maintenance programs. • Participates in Fire Department physical fitness program and directs Fire Fighters in physical fitness program. • Serves as training officer for one shift and performs such tasks as planning and conducting recruit training, and fire apparatus operator certification. • Plans, organizes, directs, budgets for, controls and purchases for special staff assignments such as hose testing, hydrant servicing and painting, fire alarm maintenance, etc. • Sets examples for subordinates by dress, appearance and attitude. • Performs staff and administrative functions as assigned. Firefighter Duties—Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Drive and operate fire apparatus. • Respond to fire,rescue,medical and other public service calls. � Operate a wide variety of specialized manual/powered tools,hose and ladders under hazardous conditions. • Maintain all tools and equipment. • Operate a variety of specialized medical equipment before and during emergencies. • Participate in a variety of training relating to all types of emergency and non-emergency responses. • Participate in fire prevention inspections and pre-fire planning. • Participate in Fire Prevention education and public relations. • Assist in fire investigations. • Participate in a physical fitness program. • Appear in court as necessary. • Perform minor station and grounds maintenance. • Use and wear full protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus equipment. • Operate in confined and elevated areas. • Maintain fire hydrants. • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. • Perform work with a record of regular attendance and punctuality. Firefighter/Paramedic—In addition to the examples of important and essential duties for Firefighter, duties may include, but are not limited to,the following: • Respond to medical emergency calls. • Evaluate condition of patient and monitor vital signs. • Communicate with base hospital and emergency medical dispatcher. • Select and implement a course of inedical action based on standing or verbal medical orders. • Interview patients and witnesses and observe evidence at the scene.
