• Conducts fire prevention inspections of dwellings, public assemblies, and commercial, <br /> industrial, and public establishments to ensure compliance with codes and regulations <br /> pertaining to fire and life safety; Identifies common, special, structural, and panic hazards <br /> and recommend pre-fire planning activities; issue orders to comply with codes, inspect and <br /> test fire protection systems; <br /> • Examines the storage, handling, and use of flammable and combustible liquids and other <br /> hazardous materials; <br /> • Makes recommendations regarding correction of hazards. <br /> • Participates in presentation of public education. <br /> • Participates in training; <br /> • Serves as instructor as assigned; <br /> • Performs a variety of administrative duties to maintain inventories, make purchases, and <br /> make recommendations to record data and other administrative procedures. <br /> • Attends training sessions which include firefighting techniques, emergency medical care, <br /> and the proper use of all equipment and related tools; participates in annual testing of hoses <br /> and fire apparatus; cleans apparatus and equipment and performs general custodial duties <br /> as required; serves as acting Fire Captain as required; <br /> • Operates power, hydraulic and air equipment in difficult emergency conditions; <br /> � Manages and accomplishes projects as assigned. <br /> • Perform other duties as assigned. <br /> Firefighter/Paramedic Essential and Important Duties (Illustrative Only) <br /> Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: <br /> • Responds to medical emergencies; performs primary and secondary physical assessment of ill <br /> or injured persons; treat patients in accordance with the San Mateo County Emergency <br /> Medical Services Protocols and Fire Department policy; <br /> • Operates radio-telephone equipment and communicates medical information to base hospital <br /> medical personnel, communications dispatchers and others; <br /> • Conducts research and makes necessary reports and records; <br /> • Respond to and perform skilled tasks at emergency and non-emergency scenes; <br /> • Serves as a preceptor for paramedic and emergency medical technician trainees as directed. <br /> • Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of emergencies such as; structural, <br /> residential, commercial, industrial, hazardous materials, vehicle, and wild land fires; perform <br /> fire control activities and utilize strategies in the areas of victim rescue, entry, exposure tactics, <br /> ventilation, fire containment and extinguishment, and salvage work; <br /> • Lay and connect hose, hold nozzles and direct water streams; raise and climb ladders; ventilate <br /> burning structures; make forcible entries and evacuate occupants; <br /> • Drives and performs a variety of response and utility vehicles, equipment,tools, devices, and <br /> vehicles including lifting, hoisting, spreading, and pulling equipment, building heating and <br /> ATTY/AGR/2012/AMENDMENTS/AMEND NO.2 SAN CARLOS FIRE <br /> REV:09-06-12 VR <br /> Page 14 of 15 <br />
