7 10,
REPORT
To the Ponorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
September 22, 2003
Subject
Final Acceptance — Municipal Services Center Replacement of the Men's Toilet/Shower
Area Ceramic Tile Floors Project
Recommendation
Accept the improvements for the Municipal Services Center Replacement of the Men's
Toilet/Shower Area Ceramic Tile Floors Project, and authorize the release of bonds.
Background
On April 28, 2003, the City Council approved the Contract Documents and awarded the
contract for the Municipal Services Center Replacement of the Men's Toilet/Shower
Area Ceramic Tile Floors Project to the lowest responsible bidder, Tinney Construction,
Corp. of Redwood City, California, for their low bid of $18,000.
The ceramic tile floors in the Men's shower /toilet area of the Municipal Services Center
had failed and buckled, due to excessive heat, constant moisture, and lack of
expansion joints in the mortar bed of the tile floors.
This project reconstructed the ceramic tile floors system, inclusive of the much needed
expansion joints. The project has been completed to the satisfaction of Engineering and
Construction. The toilet and shower area are now back in service.
Alternatives
Do not accept the improvements of Municipal Services Center Replacement of the
Men's Toilet/Shower Area Ceramic Tile Floors Project, which would be contrary to prior
Council action.
Fiscal Impacts
Funds in the amount of $30,000 have been appropriated in the FY2002 -2003 Capital
Improvements Program Budget for the Municipal Services Center Replacement of the
Men's Toilet/Shower Area Ceramic Tile Floors Project, under the Civic Facility
Miscellaneous Replacement Program.
Senior Civil Engineer Community Development Services Director
BL:SS
S/library1warVbrlaNAmept MSC Ceramic Tll
C4
td Everett
City Manager
