41� Written Communications 1 Letter signed by 32 neighbors of Stulsaft Park requesting elim�- nation of certain undesirable activities at tfie Park It was noted by Council that some time ago that the City did , consider a plan to patrol the park but the residents opposed it Marlene Cooper, 1403 Mitchell Way, descr�bed some of the prob- lems that are occurring in and near the park and suggested that police response to complaints 7s slow Mr Fales advised that improvements to the Park had been given a high priority in the Capital Improvements Budget at least two years ago, and Park and Recreation staff had approached the residents in the neigh- borhood for their react�on to the proposed improvements but apparently those people ob,7ected to changing the pristine char- acter of the park The proposal would have provided for more parking, p�cnic areas, and patrol by a ranger, and would have encouraged family-type use Because of the attitude of the neighboring residents, those funds were taken out of the budget and used elsewhere and are no longer available Mrs Cooper (see above) stated that the complaint referred not only to activities in the park after hours, but in the streets nearby, as weil MOTION Councilman Barrett moved, seconded by Councilman Bury, to , refer the letter relating to Stulsaft Park to staff The motion carried unanimously by voice vote. ' (MINUTE ORDER NO 77-221) Oral Cortmunications 1 Dennis Woodman, attorney, referred to his letter of October 7, 1977. relating to the impending consolidation of Municipal Courts in San Mateo County, and advised that tomorrow the Board of Supervisors would adopt the enabling ord�nances which would bring many of the cases now heard in the City of San Mateo to Redwood C�ty He expressed concern with regard to the potential traffic and parking congestion that would result, as well as increas�ng the number of prisoners paraded manacled between County buildings on publ�c streets He believed that an environmental impact re- port should be required to determine the effects on the City, and that the Counc�l should take any necessary steps to force the Board to insure there is adequate parking before taking these steps Council responded that the action would save taxpayers substan- tial money Amendments to Lon shoremen's and Harbor Workers' Act S 2020 Cranston)) ' Reference was made by Council to the correspondence from Senator Cranston relating to the sub,7ect bill to exempt certain small shore- -5 Reg Mtg 10/1�%77 /� �
