. ` 3
, . , y
In a discussion concerning street lighting, Mr. Pusich advised in
response to question by Council that studies have shown that the
most cost-effective light is high-pressure sodum lamps, at approxl-
mately half the energy cost of inercury vapor lamps. He also adv9sed
that conversion of the street lighting system is now under way for
replacement of the old incandescent lights with mercury vapor lamps,
incorporating a metering system to insure the City is not paying for
lights it is not getting He estimated costs for conversion of the
remaining lamps at about $58,000. He also noted that whcre there
are new installations, such as in Redwood Shores, the higt,-pressure .
sodium lamps are being used, with meters.
Mr. Fales referred to his comments in his Budget Message relative 1`
to Account No 640, Water System, and the fact that staff is trying
to avoid proposing a water rate ncrease, assuming that the increase
in wholesale rate is not approved and put nto effect this year.
Thus far, opponents to the proposed increase in water rates in the
pending court case have been successful. However, if theincrease
is approved, it may be necessary to come back in mid-year to re-
quest an increase to offset the wholesale cost of water.
Mr Fales also referred to the detailed report dated April 21, 1976
on Sanitary Sewerage and Disposal which provides a detailed analysis
done by the Director of Public Works, and provides information on
____ Federal and State guidelines, the necessity to provide funds to pay '
the City's share of the S6SA facility, as well as the existing ser-
vices, and the fact that staff is tryng to e7iminate revsion of
sewer fees each year. He noted that the City will have to continue
paying SBSA, but ultimately wll begin getting back grant funds.
M MOTION Councilman Barrett moved, seconded by Councilman Biagi, to
approve the recommendations of the Public Works Director relative
to Account Nos. 650 and 651 as provded in hs report of April 21
in support of the budget request.
The motion carried unanimously by voice vote. ,
The Department of Public Works accounts were approved as amended.
,., ,
Adournment . ,
M\
MayorLeipzig advised that the thir,d Budget Study Session will be
held at 9:00 a.m , Saturday, May 15, 1976, 7n the Board of Supervisors
Chambers, Hall of Justice and Records.
Mayor Leipzig declared the meeting adourned at 4.50 p.m.
JACQUELINE C.
