(MINUTE ORDER N0. 76-43) <br /> The motion carried unanimously by roll call vote , <br /> p Written Cormnunications ' <br /> r� <br /> 1 Letter from Pie-in-The-Sky re temporary sign permits. <br /> Mrs. Karen Handler, 1061 Madison, proprietor of Pie-in-The-Sky, <br /> an aerial promotion company, advised that she and her husband <br /> have FAA approval to fly advertising dirigibles and described <br /> her experience in attempting to obtain temporary sign permits <br /> to operate in Redwood City. ' <br /> City Attorney Schricker advised that an amendment to the <br /> Municipal Code is required if aerial temporary signs of the type <br /> used by Mrs. Handler are to be permitted, noting that the <br /> Building Department has concerns about safety, and advising that <br /> he had reco�nended that the proprietors of the enterprise give <br /> some thought to the spec�fic content of any prospective Code <br /> amendment. Mr. Schricker advised that the Council does not <br /> have the authority to grant a variance to the sign ordinance. <br /> Discussion followed and Mr. Schricker, City Manager Fales and <br /> Chief Building Official Gyselbrecht comnented and replied to <br /> questions concerning the experiences reported by Mrs. Handler; � <br /> some of the safety considerations relating to aerial signs, <br /> aesthetic and environmental considerations regarding the <br /> appearance of advertising balloons in the City; the need for <br /> technical expertise in proposing an amendment to the Code, if <br /> such an amendment is to be considered, and the purpose of the <br /> standards imposed by the sign ordinance. <br /> �} There being no ob�ection, Mayor Weymouth ordered refer,red to "" <br /> staff for report the request of Mrs Handler for an amendment <br /> , to the sign ordinance which would permit the flying of ad- <br /> vertising ballons. (Memo 2/10/76) <br /> � Executive Session <br /> MOTION Councilman Nenderson moved, seconded by Councilman Norris, <br /> to ad�ourn to executive session for the purpose of discussing <br /> litigation matters. <br /> The motion carried unanimously by voice vote. <br /> � Mayor Weymouth advised the Council will reconvene solely for the <br /> purpose of ad�ourning <br /> The Council ad�ourned to executive session at 9•28 p m. � <br /> Ad�ournment <br /> Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, Council ad�ourned at <br /> 9•50 p.m. <br /> JACQUELINE C.
