300 <br /> Written Cortunumcations (continued) <br /> that while funds for park development come from GID No 1-64, <br /> all cost of maintenance in the future comes from the General <br /> Fund of the City. He noted there is increasing competition <br /> for the limited funds of the City. <br /> Mrs. George Arens, advised that she had written to Director ' <br /> of Parks and Recreation Weeks and had received a letter simi- <br /> lar to that of the City Manager on the same sub�ect. Mrs. <br /> Arens stated her appreciation of the response and noted the <br /> importance of the park development to Redwood Shores residents. <br /> Bruce Albin, 569 Compass Circle, requested a target date for <br /> comp etion of the Dolphin Park development. Mr. Albin also <br /> requested that the City Council meet as a Board of Directors <br /> of GID No. 1-64 in Redwood Shores. It was explained that the <br /> City is not the only governmental agency involved with develop- <br /> ment of parks in the Shores area and that cost of maintenance <br /> is an important factor in park development. <br /> Ron MacQuarrie, 558 Keelson Circle, asked the City Manager <br /> to provide a progress report in June on park development tn ' <br /> Redwood Shores in his regular Community Information Report, <br /> (Memo 3/8/76) <br /> Mayor Weymouth thanked the members of the audience for coming <br /> to the meeting and indicating their concern. <br /> Public versus Private Streets ' <br /> Councilman Norris referred to his memorandum of March 8, 1976 <br /> addressed to the City Council regarding public versus private <br /> streets for planned developments. <br /> Discussion followed concerning whether or not the Council has a <br /> policy with regard to private streets; whether direction to the <br /> Planning Commission on the sub�ect is proper, the desirability of <br /> retaining flexibility with regard to streets within a development; <br /> and whether the Planning Commisison has requested guidance <br /> City Manager Fales advised that the Public Works Department and <br /> the Planning Department are involved in a study of the advantages <br /> and disadvantages of public versus private streets which is in- <br /> tended to be an educational report Mr Fales suggested the <br /> memorandum from Councilman Norris could be forwarded to those <br /> departments. (Memo 3/9/76) <br /> Appointments - Council of Mayors of San Mateo County <br /> Mayor Weymouth called attention to the letter to him from Robert A. <br /> Jones, Mayor of Belmont and Chairman of the Council of Mayors, <br /> regarding the necessity of filling certain vacancies and requesting <br /> that names of candidates be subm�tted to Mayor Jane Baker of San ' <br /> Mateo, Chairman of the Nominating Cortom ttee, for appointment to <br /> the vacancies.
