Letter from San Mateo County Central Labor Council re paramedic/ <br /> transport service <br /> There being no ob�ection, Mayor Weymouth ordered the sub�ect <br /> letter referred to staff for consideration at any time the <br /> sub�ect may be under study by the City (memo 3/23/76) <br /> Oral Comnunications - <br /> 1 Harold Ratliffe, 2757 Carolina, Redwood City, owner of the <br /> California Ambulance Service, urged that before Council makes <br /> any decision with regard to adopting a paramedic/transport <br /> system within the City Fire Department, Council members <br /> should consider the service in that area being provtded by <br /> private industry Mr. Ratliffe suggested that the cost of <br /> � such a city program would be prohibitive and described some <br /> of the difficulties which would be expected to be encountered <br /> in a city operated service <br /> It was explained to Mr Ratliffe that the County of San Mateo <br /> is studying that matter at this time, that the matter is not <br /> under consideration by the City Council, that the only com- <br /> munication received on the matter is the one from the Central <br /> Labor Council (see above), that both City staff and Council <br /> �' are well aware of the extremely high cost of a paramedic � <br /> program; that existing programs are fr�quently operated by <br /> police departments, rather than fire departments, that there <br /> are some difficulties with the private services also, and <br /> that the City Council has every intention of obtaining all <br /> information and studying it carefully at any time the sub- <br /> �ect of a paramedic program might come before them <br /> Ad,7ournment <br /> MOTION Councilman Norris moved, seconded by Councilman Leipzig, <br /> to ad�ourn.
