3 2'7 <br /> Installation of newly elected Council Members <br /> City Clerk Hildebrand administered the Oath of Office to the newly <br /> elected Councilmen (Robert H. Bury, Bob Norris, Mario Biagi and <br /> Marguerite Leipzig) and presented them with Certificates of <br /> � Election. � <br /> Nomination and election of Mayor <br /> City Clerk Hildebrand called for nominations for the office of <br /> Mayor <br /> MOTION Councilman Bury moved, seconded by Councilman Barrett, <br /> that the Charter of Redwood City provides that each member of the <br /> Council may serve as Mayor and Vice Mayor By the broad cortanunity <br /> support that each member of the Council has received, each member <br /> of the Council is qualified to represent the community in such <br /> positions. To assist in this important elective procedure, it is <br /> proposed for the Council's consideration the following: <br /> 1 Enter the names of all members of the Council for con- <br /> sideration as Mayor unless a member has requested that <br /> hts or her name not be considered. This should be <br /> accomplished by motion. <br /> 2. Each member of the Council shall cast a written vote <br /> simultaneously. These votes would be handed to the <br /> City Clerk. The City Clerk would tabulate the votes <br /> and announce the results. <br /> , A ma,7ority shall be required to nominate. <br /> Following a motion to close nominations, a roll call <br /> vote will be taken to elect nominee. <br /> 3 Follow a similar procedure for Vice Mayor <br /> Councilman Bury advised that he has discussed the procedure de- <br /> scribed in the motion with City Attorney Schricker who advised that <br /> it is legal. <br /> In response to questions, City Attorney Schricker confirmed that the <br /> suggested procedure is acceptable under the law and stated that the <br /> results of voting must be announced publically. <br /> The motion carried unanimously by roll call vote. <br /> Councilman Barrett requested that his name be withdrawn from con- <br /> sideratton for the office of Mayor <br /> Councilman Bury requested that his name be withdrawn from considera- <br /> tion for the office of Mayor <br /> Mrs Hildebrand then requested that Council members proceed to vote <br /> � for a nominee for the office of Mayor, noting that four votes are <br /> required for the nomination. <br /> i <br /> Mrs Hildebrand announced the results as follows ' <br /> -6- <br /> Reg.Mtg <br /> 4/19/76 <br />
