Jorflan, 3uperintendent of the Souther Pacific <br /> Company, referring to the ir.stallation of pedestria,n ga.tes at ,the BroadNa.y <br /> crossing axid advising that while it vJOUld be,.possible to install four pedes- <br /> trian gates,_the cost, estimated a.t �6500, was believed to be exceseive, <br /> Councilman Yderder urged that the Council do Mhatever is necessary to keep <br /> ' this matter_alive_and asked the strictest action the Council could adopt, <br /> City Attorney bcCarthy advised that an application could be made to the Rail- <br /> road Cotnmission if the Southern Pacific ia unwilling to install the gates. <br /> It was suggested that fl2r. Jordan be contacted to ascertain whether the <br /> , Southern Pacific would be willing to install the gates. Councilma.n Granger <br /> moved, seconded by Councilman Werder, that the matter be referred to the <br /> City Manager to uvait on Mr, Jorda,n personally and report at the next meeting. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Communication v�as received from the California Mission Trails Association advie- <br /> ing it understood,a donation had been provided in this year's budget for the <br /> • Association and asking that a resolution be adopted by the Council in re- <br /> � gard to improvement of highways throughout the State, City Manager Blom <br /> advised that no provision had been made in the budget for such a donation <br /> and tha.t none had been for some years. Councilman Armatrong moved tha.t the <br /> proper administrative officials reply to the communication a.nd advise that <br /> no funda have been appropria.ted to the Association a.nd that the city ha.e no <br /> fund from which such an appropriat.ion can be made, The motion was seconded <br /> ' by Councilman l'/erder and passed unanimously. <br /> Communication was received from George 49. Eva,ns, 627 Hamilton Street, a.dvising <br /> that hie apartment house does not have garage space for the tenants and re- <br /> questing that they be allowed to park cars all night in front of the apart- . <br /> ment house. Councilraan�werder did not believe the Council should instruct <br /> the Police Department to allow all night parking on certain streets and <br /> not on othera and, with this thought in mind, moved that the request be <br /> • denied, eeconded by Councilman Armstrong, Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Communication wae received from Governor ti��arren expreseing appreciation for the <br /> assisst�nce received during the recent•emergency which developed in regard <br /> to rents a.nd threatened evictions. The communication was ordered filed, <br /> Communication was received from L. E. N'erder requesting permi�sion to erect four <br /> ' • signs on his company's property, tvro to be erected on Vr'oodside Road, Red-, <br /> wood Terrace No.2, and two on Ea,st Broa.dway, in Broadway No. 3. The signs <br /> are to be used for advertising the property. Councilma,n Britschgi,asked ff <br /> a sketch was not required showing the type of sign. After referring to the <br /> ' � ordinance, City Attorney McCarthy advised there was no limitation on the <br /> size of signs having property for sale nor was a sketch necessary when ad- <br /> , vertising property for sale. Councilman Britschgi moved that if the signs <br /> conform vrith the ordinance and the requirements:,of the building inspector <br /> the permit be granted; seconded by Councilman McNulty, Motion pasaed <br /> unanimously. <br /> • Comn�unication was received from the Redwood City Planning Commission recommending <br /> � " . <br />
