Deducting that amount from �18,101.60, <br /> leavee a balanoe of �7,670.10 to allocate to the unbudgeted reserve which will <br /> increase that account to $13,307.48, These are the only ohanges made in the ' <br /> budget se eubmitted in tentative Porm. The total expenditures proposed <br /> amount to $491,568,37, <br /> ,City Manager Blom went on to say that he would like to point out to the Coun- <br /> cil and ieiterate the etatement made when submitting the tentative budget <br /> that the current revenue for tne ooming year amounts to only $424,560.36. • <br /> The difference oetween tne estimated expenditures and revenue of appro'ximately <br /> �67,OOU, Rhich ie in the nature of a deYicit between the current expenditures <br /> and ourrent revenue is obtained through two iteme - one, caeh balance oY <br /> approximately �55,000 and a loan oY $12,000 4rom the poet war fund for the <br /> purpose of Yinancing a revaluation of property. He stated the city was fortu- <br /> nate to hane tne cash reserne to draw upon this year but tnat between now and <br /> the preparation of the budget Yor 1947-48, there must be Yound a souroe of ' <br /> revenue suffioient to bring the current renenue to or above the current <br /> expenditurea. <br /> Mr. Blom advieed tnat he had attended a meeting of the Senate Committee on ' <br /> Looal Taxa.tion earlier in the day and that Redwood City�s problem is no�dif- <br /> ferent than that of moet of the other citiee in the vicinity. At the meet- � <br /> ing, the possibility of increaeing the state ealee tax with perhape 1/2¢ <br /> being allocated to cities to aseiet in tneir financing problem was disouseed, <br /> There is also the possibility that the etate might give eome aeeietance in • <br /> the revaluation of property: City Manager Btom stated that Councilman <br /> Arnistrong had also attended thie nearing and that they had urged that con- <br /> eideration be given to increasing tne allocation oP gae tax to the citiee and <br /> also to reimbursing the cities Yor their loas in valua,tion due to veterans� <br /> exemptions, a grant that is made by the etate and paid for by the citiea and 1 <br /> counties. It was the opinion of Mr. Blom tnat some relief might be in eight <br /> from the above men�ioned sources but he did not believe that the Council <br /> ehould await the acLion oY ttie Legislature on these mattere but should begin <br /> making plana iromediatelq to take care of Lhe problem ao that there will be ' <br /> some method of ineeting the situa.tion when the next budget is prepared in the <br /> event the etate fails to provide any additional local revenue, <br /> In regard to the reeult of the budget on the tax rate, Mr. Blom advised that <br /> tne maximum levy of $1.00 permiseible under the Charter for general purposee <br /> ie used again this year.
