Mayor of the City of Redwood City Mayor Hilton entered the meeting but asked Councilman Granger to continue in the chair, City �anager Blom presented specifications for the positiona of Engineering Aid, Engineering Assistant and City Engineer which had been approved by the Board of Review. He explained that tnere is novr provided in the personnel • system trie poeition of Engineering Aid and that tne new specification was " only slightly modified. There is no provision in the salary ordinance for tnis position and he recommended that a salary be set at $1800 to �2400 per annum. He asked that he be authorized to advertise the position within the ealary. range specified, Councilman Britschgi was of the opinion that the salary range was not high enough, however, it was the general opinion that ' triis was an apprentice position and that this would be a fair salary. . Councilman Armstrong moved, seconded by Councilman Fletcher, tha.t the recom- mendation of the Board of Review and the City Manager be accepted with re- enect to the position of Engineering_Aid, Motion passed unanimously. In regard to the specifications for the poeition of Engineering Assistant, City Manager Blom advised that there is a epecification for thia position in the personnel system, however, it provides for only part time work, The new specificationa provide for it to be a full time job and will cover any � position in the engineering section between xodman, chairman up to city engineer, He said he would like to employ some one in the unper salary range who could be narned as the asaistant city engineer and some.one in the lower range with less experience, The salary range for tnis position wae recommended from �2400.to �3600. Councilman Fletcher moved, seconded by , Councilman McNulty, that the recommendation of the Board of Review and City PHanager be accepted with respect to the position of Engineering Assistant. Under the question,, Mayor Hilton queationed whether the wording in regard to yeare of experience under the section headed "Desirable Preparation for ' Viork" should not be more.specific instead of using the vuord "eeveral". It was decided that the wording be cnanged to "at least one year's experience". B4otion passed unanimously. Tne specifications for the position of City Engineer provide for full,charge of tne Engineering Department responsible only to the City Manager. It pro- vides age requirements of not less than 30,years and not more tnan 49 at � the time of appointment. Applicants must nold a state license as a civil \ .
