6.1.M. - Page 1 <br /> RE PO RT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the City Manager <br /> August 22, 2011 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Agreement for Redwood City to Provide Fire Equipment Maintenance Services to the <br /> City of San Carlos <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> By motion, approve the Agreement for Redwood City to Provide Fire Equipment <br /> Maintenance Services to the City of San Carlos. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> In January of this year, the City of San Carlos began deliberating options regarding fire <br /> and emergency services in their community. The San Carlos City Council expressed a <br /> desire to contract out fire protection and emergency services provided to its community. <br /> At the San Carlos City Council Meeting on April 25, 2011, council members reviewed <br /> and discussed all proposals submitted and selected the proposal put forth by the City of <br /> Redwood City. <br /> Following this selection, representatives from both cities have met frequently to fine- <br /> tune the proposal and draft a mutually agreeable hybrid contract which was approved <br /> by both parties on June 27, 2011. Currently the City of San Carlos does not have a fire <br /> department and is in the process of creating one. During the initial meetings it was <br /> revealed that the City of San Carlos was interested in contracting for more than just Fire <br /> Services with the City of Redwood City. Subsequently, the City of San Carlos has now <br /> requested that the City of Redwood City provide certain services in addition to the <br /> agreement for Fire and Emergency Services. The City of San Carlos would like <br /> Redwood City to provide Fleet Services to the San Carlos Fire Department. Providing <br /> these additional services will help streamline the transition and sustain a workable <br /> cooperative environment. <br /> Redwood City Fleet currently provides services to six governmental agencies and is <br /> going to expand to include the San Carlos Fire Department. Redwood City Fleet will <br /> provide complete vehicle maintenance and repair services to San Carlos's fire <br /> apparatus. Such maintenance services are based on industrial standards, as <br /> recommended by the manufacturer. Redwood City Fleet will bring additional revenue to <br />
