8.A. - Page 103
PLG-Sailesh Mehra
From: Nancy Krosse [nrkrosse@comcast.net
Sent: Monday, August 15, 2011 2:33 PM
To: PLG-Sailesh Mehra; PLG-Jill Ekas; GRP-City Council
Cc: Beerly Purrington
Subject: Laurel Way EIR
Honorable Mayor and Gity Council Members,
I am writing to address my concerns about the EIR that was approved by your council in August of
2010. My husband and I are residents of Highland Ave., Redwood City for the past 32 years. We have
attended all of the meefings regarding the projected development at the end of Laurel Way.
To add to our list of concerns, aiong with those of our neighbors, we would like for you to consider
the heightened level of trafFic that will be affect Highland Avenue. It is the only point of access to
Laurel Way. Our street is designated, by the city, as a substandard street. It has not been re-paved in
aver a decade. There are enormous pot holes thaf just kep getting patched but always open up again
hy the time the rainy season starts.
We live on the opposite side of the canyon where the development is slated to be built. According fo
the geologic report there is a large area of serpetine rock where there is a naturally existing level of
asbestos. When the excavation 6egins for this project all of the neighbors will be exposed ta
dangerous amounts of asbestos. For those of us with children who have asthma this is very
worrisome.
Along with a!I the other items mentioned in the EIR that summarize that everything found in the Laurel
Way area that may have a potential downside can all be "mitigated to a level of acceptance" my
husband and I believe that the mitigation factors are unrealistic and do not address the actual dangers
and hazards of the residents of the wonderful neighborhood.
Please reconsider the approal of the EIR and let our appeal address the realistic threats to all af us in
this community.
Sincerefy,
Nancy Krosse
i
