8. STAFF REPORT(S) — None <br /> 9. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. City Council Members Reports of Conferences/Meetings Attended <br /> Council Member Pierce reported on the last meeting of the Peninsula Division League <br /> Dinner regarding lessons learned in San Bruno and she found it invaluable. The Mayor <br /> and City Manager of San Bruno were present and shared some important insights. <br /> Council Member Bain welcomed the jroung people in the audience and thanked them <br /> for being here. <br /> B. City Council Member Report of Conference/Meeting Attendance <br /> Mayor Ira noted he had seen the City Manager's article in the paper. Dr. Bell said he <br /> wanted to make some comments on the budget process to date which began about one <br /> year ago. Dr. Bell commented that the labor concessions were successful because <br /> staff reached out to them and built trusting and respectFul relationships and that there <br /> was both innovation and creativity. He noted that there had been some tough <br /> discussions in the Chambers and he thanked the Council, the staff and the <br /> management team for making this a reality. While the approved budget was balanced, <br /> there was the looming threat regarding the Redevelopment budget. He noted that the <br /> ne� steps are an organizational analysis that needs to be vetted through the <br /> Department Heads and the staff, which will come back in the fall, and other shared <br /> services that are occurring like services in the City of San Carlos. He said these are <br /> precursors towards looking at next year's budget. <br /> C. City Manager (Oral) Update a <br /> 10. ADJOURN — M/S Bain/Pierce to adjourn the meeting at 7:29 p.m. Mayor Ira <br /> adjourned in memory of Jon Christensen who passed away on June 21, 2011 while on <br /> the job. He was th usband of the Mayor's niece, was only 30 years and he had a <br /> very young famil .
