C. - Page 1 <br />REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />September 12, 2011 <br />SUBJECT <br />Agreement for support of the Redwood City Community Schools for FY 2011/12 <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1) Approve the agreement between the City of Redwood City, County of San Mateo, <br />and the Redwood City School District for support of the Redwood City Community <br />Schools (formerly identified as Redwood City Family Centers) for fiscal year 2011/2012. <br />2) Authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Several years ago, the City of Redwood City (City) in partnership with the Redwood City <br />School District (District) and the County of San Mateo (County) agreed to assist the <br />Community Schools with sustainability. The Community School program is located at <br />Garfield, Hawes, Fair Oaks, Hoover, Kennedy and Taft Schools. The Community <br />Schools were established to actively involve Redwood City residents, educators and <br />human services providers in supporting neighborhood children to become successful <br />learners. The Community Schools provide integrated support for children and families, <br />including health services, family support services, parent- community partnerships, adult <br />education, and after - school programs. This program is overseen by the Redwood City <br />School District and supported by Redwood City 2020. The Community Schools reach <br />students and their families in a way that few programs are able to do because they are <br />strategically linked to the school communities they serve. <br />The City, County, and District are funding the core operations of the Community <br />Schools with $100,000 from the City, $113,676 from the County, and $90,000 from the <br />District for fiscal year 2011/2012. The overall budget for Community Schools is <br />$1,250,080. Funds for Fiscal Year 2012 -13 will be negotiated by the Parties and <br />reflected in the form of a written amendment to this Agreement. <br />The following sources also support Community Schools: the San Francisco Foundation; <br />the United Way of the Bay Area; the School Community Violence Prevention Grant; the <br />
