7.A. - Page 6
• October 23, 2009. On a Friday evening a subject purchased '/ pound of
marijuana from a dispensary in San Francisco and took the bus home to
Redwood City, exiting at Sequoia Station. He was then accosted at gunpoint in
the parking lot by a person he had seen on the bus as well as another suspect
who had been waiting in the parking lot for him. He was robbed of the marijuana
he had just purchased. It is believed the suspect who the victim saw on the bus
either followed the victim from the dispensary or heard him mention the purchase
of the marijuana to a friend as they were both on the bus together. It was evident
that the victim was targeted because of the marijuana he had purchased.
• September 20, 2010. Two suspects disguised as Comcast Cable employees
knocked on the front door to the victim's apartment in a large complex and forced
entry when the door was answered. The two suspects brandished a handgun,
pistol whipped a resident, and restrained the two occupants with flex-cuffs. The
house was ransacked and several items were stolen. At the time of the initial
investigation officers believed the home invasion robbery was actually a well
planned "dope rip" but could not prove it. Several months later one of the
residents was contacted by an officer on a traffic stop and information developed
that eventually led to a search warrant being served on the residence. Several
pounds of marijuana were recovered and an individual associated with the house
confirmed that a large quantity marijuana had been the target of the earlier home
invasion robbery.
• September 16, 2009. At approximately 1:00 p.m. officers responded to
investigate an apparent traffic collision near the Target store on EI Camino Real.
Subsequent investigation revealed that what had actually occurred was a
narcotics sale that turned into a robbery. The sale involved 50 pounds of
marijuana to be sold for $70,000. When the seller arrived at an apartment to
make the delivery he and an accomplice were held at gunpoint, tied up, and
relieved of the marijuana. The purported buyers fled the scene in a SUV and
were soon pursued by the sellers. The buyers became stuck in traffic on EI
Camino near Target. They attempted to get free and escape pursuit by
repeatedly ramming the vehicle in front of them, causing serious injury to the
driver. The buyers then fled on foot, leaving the marijuana behind. The sellers
repossessed the marijuana from the SUV and attempted to flee in their vehicle,
crashing into another vehicle a short distance away. One of the two sellers was
arrested by RCPD officers and the marijuana was seized.
• Outside of Redwood City, between February and June of 2010 the San Mateo
County Narcotics Task Force made contact with employees of a medical
marijuana dispensary within the county and arranged to purchase marijuana at
various locations. In addition to purchasing the marijuana, undercover officers
were able to purchase two firearms and crystal methamphetamine along with the
marijuana from these dispensary employees.
