.
 . O
•REPORTTO,
wu►roR nNO cmr oou+ca
December 13, 1988 TM
SOUTHERN PACIFIC TRANSPORTATION COMPANY STREET EASEMENT AGREEMENT
FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SEAPORT COURT CROSSING AT SEAPORT BOULEVARD
ENGINEERING FILE N0. 1602-05 -
Recoimnendation
It is recomnended that the City Council approve execution of agreement with
the Southern Pacific Transportation Company, and authorize payment for work
identified in said agreement.
Background and Discussion
In June, 1987, the City of Redwood City requested authority to alter the '
Southern Pacific Railroad ("SPRR") crossing at Seaport Court (EA-28.10-C)
under the provisions of General Order 88-A (PUC Administrative Code).
Approval was given with the following conditions:
• 1. Placement of one Standard No. 9 Gate-Type Signal controlling the
existing traffic from Seaport Court onto Seaport Boulevard.
2. Traffic control signals at the intersection of Seaport Boulevard/Seaport
Court be installed with railroad pre-emption designating "No Left Turn"
and "No Right Turn" internally illuminated signs controlling traffic
from Seaport Boulevard onto Seaport Court.
The tWO items are either completed or in process. The railroad gate will be
installed in the near future by SPRR utilizinq State Crossing Protection
Funds, and the agreement with the City's share of cost has been executed.
The traffic signal has been completed in accordance with the provisions, and
is awaiting the installation of the railroaa gate and controller, after which
the system will be activated.
The purpose of this crossing alteration was to allow the construction of a
63,000 square foot two-story building at the intersection of Seaport
Court/Seaport Boulevard by Portside Associates. This necessitated the
relocation of the intersection westerly along Seaport Boulevard. This
alteration required Public Utilities Comnission ("PUC"), Southern
Transportation Company ("SPTC") and BCDC approvals. These approvals have all
been obtained.
The last item is the reconstruction of the trccks to SPTC's guidelines for
which they are requesting payment in the amount of 519,976. Nork will be
• done by railroad employees.
