Designation of Voting Delegate for the League of California Cities Annual <br />Conference <br />M/S Pierce /Seybert to designate Vice Mayor Alicia as the voting delegate and if she is <br />unable have Council Member Pierce will be the alternate. Motion carried unanimously <br />by voice vote. MINUTE ORDER 11 -145 <br />B. City Council Member Report of Conference /Meeting Attendance <br />- Council Member Gee reported on the San Mateo Rail Corridor meeting receiving a <br />reported on the plausibility of high speed rail passing in local cities. He noted the <br />specific location has not been determined and at this time this merely potentially <br />feasible but not final and there are studies yet to determine such viability. <br />- Council Member Pierce attended a forum in Santa Clara about the silver tsunami and <br />the need for housing. She enjoyed hearing a community member (Don Wheaton) <br />confirm what experts. Some members of the City's Civic Cultural Commission attended <br />this event and spoke about the needs of this segment of our community. This Council <br />Member also noted that on Sept. 7 the San Mateo County History Museum will be <br />holding the History Makers gala honoring two key players of this community (Keith <br />Sorenson and Jim Fox prior District Attorneys are the honorees). <br />- Council Member Foust announced that on August 27 the annual levee clean up will <br />take place at 8:00 a.m. and on Sept. 1 there will be the Bay Conservation and <br />Development Commission Public Hearing (Ferry Building in San Francisco at 1) on the <br />Bay Area Plan Amendment. As a side note she mentioned that there is some discussion <br />in some cities (San Jose and Suisun City) about BCDC moving into local jurisdictions <br />control over land use. This Council Member also spoke highly about the ground <br />breaking for the new Kaiser hospital and how Council Members Pierce and Aguirre <br />were also in attendance. Council Member Foust thanked Kaiser Permanente for its <br />investment in Redwood City. <br />C. City Manager (Oral) Update <br />Dr. Bell said that Planning Department staff is working on the BCDC Bay Plan <br />Amendment. The City Manager announced that the Scoping report on Saltworks is <br />online and available for public review. It incorporates six - months of public comments <br />during the scoping period and includes a summary as well. <br />On the issue of the appearance and landscape maintenance on El Camino Real and <br />101 he thanked Council Members Bain and Mayor Ira for seeking Senator Simitian's <br />support which apparently is moving matters quickly. <br />10. ADJOURN- M/S Seybert /Pierce to adjourn at 10:15 p.m. in memory of Jean <br />Liebengood, who was Vice Mayor Aguirre's mother in law and passed on at the age of <br />93 years old also in memory of Sunnyvale former Mayor Ron Swegles who passed away <br />at age 67 and Roy Mclntee a 35 -years Public Works employee.
