6.1.A. - Page 38 <br />Mayor Ira opened the Public Hearing. <br />Public Comment <br />Mike Resendez identified himself as a disabled veteran and former army ranger and <br />said that medical marijuana has enabled him to function despite chronic pain when <br />conventional medicines failed. He spoke in favor of the use of medical marijuana so <br />that disabled people with chronic pain have the ability to grow this medication and get <br />help, in safety, and without pesticides. It is his view that there is a need to protect <br />patients and provide them with safe environments for the care and quality of life they <br />need and deserve. <br />M/S Seybert /Gee to close the Public Hearing. Motion carries 6 -0 by voice vote with <br />Council Member Foust absent. <br />Council Member Bain noted that his first job is to protect the city. He suggested <br />following the attorney's guidance since protecting the city is his primary goal. <br />M/S Bain /Seybert to waive the first reading and introduce the ordinance with no sunset <br />clause. MINUTE ORDER 11 -172 <br />ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />AMENDING ARTICLE 48 OF THE REDWOOD CITY ZONING CODE RELATING <br />TO APPEALS <br />ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />AMENDING ARTICLE 49 OF THE REDWOOD CITY ZONING CODE RELATING <br />TO NOTICE FOR PUBLIC HEARINGS <br />ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />ADDING A NEW ARTICLE III TO CHAPTER 1 OF THE REDWOOD CITY CODE <br />RELATING TO APPEALS <br />Ms. Thompson, City Attorney, noted that the draft ordinances are before Council so staff <br />can get confirmation that the Council wishes to clean up the appeals process. <br />She said the collective purpose is to clean up the appeals procedures in the Municipal <br />Code and that there over 40 items that refer to appeals in such document.
