6.1.A. - Page 2 <br />A. Verbal Recognition of Karen Owyeung, CEO of Lunera - Jeff Ira, Mayor <br />Mayor Ira recognized Lunera for its innovative work and presence in the community. Ms. <br />Owyeung thanked Council and Redwood City for the opportunity to be a successful business in <br />this community. <br />6. PUBLIC COMMUNICATION AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Dennis Logie invited all to attend an upcoming 9/11 Day of Remembrance at the <br />Courthouse Square beginning at 5:45 am to 3 p.m. There will be a simple service with <br />representatives from public safety and other groups to share, pray, reflect and <br />remember those who died and those whose lives changed forever. <br />Mike Bautista said this is his sixth time addressing City Council regarding his <br />dissatisfaction on the Kentfield project. He questioned why City Council either <br />knowingly or unknowingly accepted staff lies and suppression of information, and <br />questioned the fairness of the process. <br />Stephanie Boicelli, Library Board Commissioner, spoke on behalf of the Library Board <br />about their recent eight -week story time program in collaboration with the Parks, <br />Recreation and Community Services department. She provided details regarding the <br />program and noted that they were able to reach close to 600 residents. <br />Mayor Ira expressed appreciation and thanks for this new program. <br />Ken Paxton requested that two items be placed on a future Council agenda for <br />discussion. The items are: 1) membership to the International Council and <br />Environmental Initiatives that the Redwood City community is involved in, and 2) <br />garbage and weeds on Woodside Road exit from 101 and at El Camino Real from 101 <br />on Woodside Road. <br />Mayor Ira stated that the City Manager is currently working with staff on what the City <br />can do about the condition of Woodside Road, which is owned by the State of <br />California, and this item does not need to be placed on a future meeting agenda. <br />Jim Gordon reported on the 6th annual PAL (Police Activities League) Blues Festival at <br />Courthouse Square. This was the first time they partnered with the Downtown Business <br />Group (DTBG) which brought in the idea for a barbeque competition that included a City <br />Commissioner, the police, and others, and he hopes there will be more competitors <br />from amongst Council and other City departments next year. This is their signature <br />fund - raising event showcasing PAL and Redwood City and he acknowledged their 80 to <br />90 volunteers which included one Council Member, and local businesses. <br />Tom Cronin, Executive Director of PAL (Police Activities League) expressed <br />appreciation for the Council and community support in raising over $45,000 for their <br />community programs, which include sports and culture. He expressed gratitude to the <br />many people that helped support and sponsor especially the City Police Department, <br />volunteer cadets, the Civic Cultural Committee, and the Parks, Recreation and <br />Community Services Departments.
