6.2. - Page 1 <br />REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />December 5, 2011 <br />SUBJECT <br />Results of the November 8, 2011 General Consolidated Municipal School and Special <br />District Election based on the County of San Mateo Chief Elections Officer Certificate <br />and Final Official Canvass <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Adopt a resolution reciting the facts of the Consolidated Municipal School and Special <br />District Election on November 8, 2011 and declaring the results and such other matters <br />as provided by law. <br />2. Accept the two ordinances that were voter approved regarding a business license fee <br />increase and a transient occupancy tax. <br />3. Accept the Charter Amendment that will be incorporated into the City Charter and <br />filed with the Secretary of State and was approved by the voters. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The City of Redwood City holds its elections on odd - numbered years with alternating <br />three or four seats being on the ballot. In addition to the regularly scheduled election, <br />this year the voters were asked to consider two measures relating to the transient <br />occupancy tax, business tax, (Measure I and Measure M) and a Charter Amendment <br />(Measure K). <br />ANALYSIS <br />The City Clerk's Office has received the Certificate of the Chief Elections Officer of the <br />County of San Mateo, executed on November 30, 2011 with the election results. The <br />final official results by the Chief Elections Officer reports the following votes for each of <br />the candidates: Alicia Aguirre 5331 votes, Barbara Pierce 5089, Ian Bain 4740, <br />Rosanne Foust 4646 votes and Paul G. McCarthy with 2870. The newly elected City <br />Council Members are: Alicia Aguirre (incumbent), Barbara Pierce (incumbent), Ian Bain <br />(incumbent) and Rosanne Foust (incumbent). <br />Measure I, Transient Occupancy Tax, received 6061 votes in favor and 2177 opposing <br />votes resulting in its passage. Measure K, Charter Amendment, received 4876 votes in <br />favor and 3082 votes opposing resulting in its passage. Regarding measure M, <br />Business Tax License, it received 4554 votes in favor and 3640 opposing resulting in its <br />passage. <br />
