6.1. D. - Page 2
anticipated to be completed in 2014, will increase the safety, visibility, and accessibility
of Hoover School and will also beautify and enhance safety and walk-ability for
neighborhood residents. Redwood City 2020 is a project partner and will receive
approximately $12,500 of the grant to educate, encourage, and evaluate safe route to
school activities at Hoover School.
The Agency's Study and Redwood City 2020's involvement to increase walking and
bicycling at Hoover School provided a competitive application that resulted in the award
of the grant from Caltrans Safe Route to School for Charter Street improvements. As
programs become available, staff will seek grant funding to implement the other
improvements identified in the Study.
Staff will prepare the Caltrans Federal Aid request for authorization documents to
initiate the preliminary engineering for the Charter Street improvements. This request is
planned for submittal after the Metropolitan Transportation Commission amends the
Federal Statewide Transportation Program (FSTIP), which is anticipated in January
2012. In addition, staff will prepare a mid-year budget adjustment in FY 11/12 as
required for Council to authorize the expenditure of the grant.
Staff has met with Caltrans to provide conceptual design options and traffic operations
impacts and receive preliminary input associated with installing crosswalks at the
intersection of Woodside and Middlefield Road. A Caltrans encroachment application
for crosswalks at this intersection will be submitted summer/fall 2012.
Staff continues to maintain the existing relationships in the community and will provide
an update to the residents and stakeholders about the Charter Street improvements and
the proposed Woodside Road crosswalks at the Middlefield Road intersection.
ALTERNATIVES
This matter is an information update only; therefore, no alternatives are presented.
FISCAL IMPACT
The grant will cover the cost of the improvements, and no matching funds are required.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
Not a project.
„
{F r. i n.
 ,
'; i
JEANNIE YOUNG
REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT MANAGER
