The City Council consensus was that the 15-day appeal period is reasonable; <br /> Council would hear all significant land use matters, with Council being able to <br /> call up matters for appeal by two Council Members filing notice with the City <br /> Clerk; revision of language with respect to "official newspapers" to refer to <br /> "adjudicated" newspapers and proceed with formalizing these changes. <br /> MINUTE ORDER 11-172 <br /> 9. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. City Council Member Report of Conference/Meeting Attendance <br /> B. City Council Members Reports of Conferences/Meetings Attended <br /> -Council Member Pierce noted that Birds on Broadway (BOB) is coming to Redwood <br /> City and people should enjoy the art which will be on exhibit. <br /> -Council Member Bain wants to have a discussion about the ban on Styrofoam and <br /> plastic bags and Dr. Bell said this is scheduled for January 2012. <br /> -Mayor Ira announced that this Saturday will be OktoberFest and all are invited to attend <br /> the event at Courthouse Square, which will be a fundraiser for the education foundation. <br /> -Vice Mayor Aguirre said that the circus is coming to town and she finds this a most fun <br /> event. She also noted the upcoming Trivia Bee at Canada College with former Mayor <br /> Jim Hartnett as the Master of Ceremonies. In regards to the Government Civic <br /> Relations committee, she noted that they too discussed the ban of plastic bags and the <br /> County is pursuing its North Fair Oaks plan. Vice Mayor Aguirre also referred to a bill <br /> that is waiting for Governor's signature to streamline CEQA (California Environmental <br /> Quality Act). She also attended the League of California Cities conference, one of her <br /> takeaways was that "All Stimulus is Local," and at the conference she was sworn as a <br /> member of the League of California Cities Latino Caucus. <br /> C. City Manager (Oral) Update <br /> Dr. Bell noted that Requests For Qualifications are due October 17th and he thanked <br /> Council Members Gee and Seybert who worked on this Ad Hoc Committee. In regards <br /> to the Police Chief recruitment he is starting this week with the interviews and within <br /> three to four weeks an announcement should be made. + <br /> 10. ADJOURN - M/S Bain/Gee to adjourn at 8:15 p.m. in memory of Nora Fuentes- <br /> Arias who die t 52 in a hit and run accident.
