Proclamation: Recognizing Bone Marrow Donor Anthony Tavarez - <br /> Jeff Ira, Council Member <br /> Council Member Ira thanked Mr. Tavarez for making a difference in the life of Mathew <br /> LaCroix and for his courage and altruism in wanting to help and give life to a child. <br /> Mayor Aguirre also thanked Mr. Tavarez. Deanna LaCroix, Executive Assistant to the <br /> City Manager, thanked the donor for making such an impact in her son's life and for <br /> being so generous with his donation of bone marrow. She thanked her husband, family <br /> and her Redwood City family (including Crystel Tuifua in the City Manager's Office) for <br /> supporting her through four challenging years. Mr. Tavarez thanked the City Council for <br /> this honor and spoke about this act as a natural act. Mayor Aguirre thanked him for his <br /> g ift of I ife and p resented h i m with the key to the C ity of Redwood C ity. <br /> B. Redwood City's 17th Annual Water Conservation Poster Contest - <br /> Marilyn Harang, Acting Public Works Director <br /> Public Works Superintendent Ezell provided the introduction and background on the <br /> annual Water Conservation Poster Contest and how this year's theme was the "Seeds <br /> of Change" (presentation on file). The Mayor and Council gathered in front of the dais <br /> to greet and congratulate each winner. The H20 Joe water drop mascot showed up and <br /> all present were excited with this surprise visit. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Kate Comfort Harr, HIP (Housing for Independent People) Housing Executive Director, <br /> gave 2012 calendars to Council (on file). She provided statistical information on the <br /> people who they have served, their involvement in health, civic engagement, and how <br /> they help create affordable housing opportunities. <br /> Nancy Radcliffe, representing the Redwood City Downtown Business Group, spoke <br /> about the 5 Annual Tree Decorating Contest. There are 22 decorated trees downtown <br /> for people to vote on under different categories and there are eight different voting <br /> locations. Results will be presented at a Council meeting in the new year. <br /> One Council Member commented on the Middlefield improvements on the Consent <br /> Calendar and the positive impact this will have in the families and the Stambaugh <br /> neighborhood. She wished to call out these improvements as they will make the area <br /> more walkable. <br /> M/S Bain/Foust to adopt the Consent Calendar as presented.
