Council Member Bain also congratulated his colleagues on the re-election. He thanked
all his supporters including his family (Zack and Veronica) and Robbie and his father
David who has done a great deal to support him. He also thanked Mr. Paul McCarthy
and any other candidates who ran a clean campaign. He encouraged residents to get
involved in the city and serve and understand how the city works. He believes his job as
a Council Member includes safety, protecting and beautifying communities, flooding,
traffic and other issues. His goal is to protect the city and align the Council to the
communities' vision and the staff to the Council's vision. He believes the right team is in
place now to make this happen and he wants to empower the community to be part of
this effort.
Vice Mayor Gee thanked former Mayor Ira for his nomination and congratulated Mayor
Aguirre in her new role. He then proceeded to explain that his goal is to preserve and
improve the quality of life for the Redwood City community. He highlighted all the
committees he works on with other Council Members. Vice Mayor Gee thanked the
community for coming together to approve the two measures (I and M) on the ballot and
the employee organizations who provided concessions. He also thanked the Chamber
of Commerce for its support in passing these measures. He thanked his wife Judi and
his two children for their support, patience and acceptance of his public service.
Mayor Aguirre thanked the community and her colleagues for their support. She also
thanked her husband Pete and her sister and nephew for being here tonight. Mayor
Aguirre thanked the community of Redwood City for its trust. She also acknowledged
her Canada College friends, the Latino Community Council, Circulo Cultural and others
who gave her support and strength. In particular, she thanked her good friends Nancy
and Melanie for their support. She then provided some biographical data to illustrate her
personal journey. Mayor Aguirre values the diversity this community has to offer and the
richness that comes from it. She thanked City staff for making Council look
professional. Mayor Aguirre said she is the "Family Mayor", "Latina Mayor" and the
"Professor Mayor" but in the end she is the Mayor of Redwood City. She extended her
thanks to the representatives from other cities who came to support her.
C. Public Comment
Arnold Arreola, Chair of the Latino Community Council of Redwood City (LCCRC),
spoke to express their thanks to the Mayor for being a good example, a friend, and they
consider this to be great encouragement towards being involved and they look up to
her. He offered their help and congratulations on this great achievement. He finished by
saying in Spanish "Si se puede!"
An unidentified lady with Circulo Cultural expressed her congratulations and pride in the
Mayor's achievement as she is also a Latina and a woman.
An unidentified man expressed his congratulations and best wishes to the Mayor and
Council Members.
