B. - Page 105
Attachment 3
23 Hilliew Avenue
Redwood City, CA 94062 f E EG
December 20, 2011
DC 2Q 2011
CITY C}F REDWOOD CI'FY
Silria Vanderlinden, City C[erC CITYCLERK
City of Redwood City
1017 Middlefield Road
Redwood City, CA 94063
Dear Ms. Vonderfinden:
Re: Appeal of Deeember 13, 2011, Planning Cammission Certificatian of the Environmental Impact
Report and Related Approvals for the 258D EI Camino Rea Residential Project
The Redwood City LocaE Hausing Committee respectfulfy requess that th recent acceptance of the
Final Environmentai Report, Planned Development Permit, Vesting Tentatie Map, and adaption of
related dacuments be appealed to the City Council. The Committee is concerned that the Ur6an
Housing Graup development daes not include fousing at affordability levefs that meet the needs of the
community, and, therefore, the project shauld not be considered an appropriate fit for Reclwood City
and its gaals af creating an inclusie, thriving comrnunity. fn addition, the lacafiion of tie project site
further reinforces the need for housing that sarves a diverse range of incomes as it sits directly on the
El Camino Corridor, which seres as a primary route for SamTrans bus services. Lower incorn residents
depend on ready access ta SamTrans to travel o work and access services.
Ensuring sorne level of affordabi[ity is included in this project is also particularly appropriate in this
neighbarhood, which is primarily made up of wor[ing familis. The aerage annual income of Redwood
City residents is approximately $8,000 less than the county mediar, and the neighborhoods surrounding
this deelopment are definiteCy reresentative ofthat statistic. This development does not provide a
single unit of housing for the majority of people who lie and work in Redwood City, including peole
who work for the City!
Thank you for your consicferation of this appeal request,
Sincerely,
,

Diana Reddy, Member
Local Nousing Carnmirtee
