7.A. - Page 2
• Marliese Jones (incumbent)
• Elisa Chavez Luna
BACKGROUND
By Resolution No. 15011 (04/12/2010) the City Council extended terms of Boards,
Commissions and Committee members to provide sufficient time to better evaluate and
streamline a number of processes related to the management and organization of these
BCCs. All those impacted were notified by a letter from the Mayor. Meanwhile the City
Council, through the City Manager, engaged the services of a consultant (Management
Partners) to analyze various processes related to BCCs. Upon presentation of the final
report certain changes were approved at the June 27, 2011 City Council meeting.
Staff received direction, through the Mayor, to start the recruitment process for such
seats in September 2011, in order to account for the possibility that some interested
parties might have been away during the summer months. Priority was given to an
unexpected vacancy on the Planning Commission. All BCC members who had been
serving under this status were contacted and invited to reapply.
ANALYSIS
This revised recruitment process was thorough and allowed for a more in-depth
conversation between the Council and applicants. Interviews took place in early 2012.
In addition, Council set clear expectations of applicants (through the recruitment
announcement) and individually selected applicants to be interviewed. The interviews
were conducted in open meetings and no decisions were made about appointments. All
applicants were told that the appointments were going to be made at the Council
meeting of February 13, 2012.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may select to make no appointments.
FISCAL IMPACT
None
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
Not a project under CEQA

}'A (ft";,4{.i;
SILVIA VONDERLINDEN,
CITY CLERK
