(Emerging Scholar Opportunities). It is the mission of Canada College to ensure that students from diverse backgrounds have the opportunity to achieve their educational goals by providing quality instruction. The College is an integral member of the community of Redwood City and the surrounding areas. The College is known though out the area for its program in English as a Second Language, including the new, innovative programs linking language training with workforce skills. Since 2008, the College has received significant funding for STEM programs and is gaining a reputation for education in science and technology. This focus is vital to the economic health of our community. In these times of tight budgets around the country, opportunities like this Title V grant program have even more significance for the support and education of our students. The State of CA has reduced funding to our community colleges, forcing a reduction in student support and even class sections. I fully support Canada College's efforts to find innovative ways to provide important services to the students in our city and region.
