7.A. - Page 2 <br />technological advances in equipment made in recent years will allow the police <br />department to replace antiquated equipment with modern technology, as well as bring in <br />new tools to help officers do their job better. <br />Police training is a crucial part of community safety. A well- trained police force promotes <br />consistency in the implementation of procedures as well as helping to keep community <br />members and officers alike safe during the course of police work. Quality training leads <br />to an improved response to the community. When citizens trust their police force to <br />respond appropriately to reports, they begin to contribute to a decrease in crimes. The <br />proposed additional training funds will allow for a better trained workforce. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />City Council may choose not to accept this grant funding. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Approval of this resolution will have no fiscal impact. City staff anticipated receipt of this <br />grant award and the City Council appropriated $125,578 in the FY2011 -2012 budget via <br />a mid -year budget amendment to expend this grant. The COPS grant has no <br />requirement that the recipient agency provide matching funds.
