6.1.A. - Page 9 <br /> One Council Member brought up an issue relating to speakers, who come to the <br /> Council Meeting and leave messages on answering machines. She noted that <br /> sometimes the answers are not what people want; and, so the questions continue <br /> because some are not getting the answers they want. She clarified that Council is <br /> responsive and does not ignore people. She explained that the City Council has 78,000 <br /> residents to handle and can't say yes to every person. <br /> Vice Mayor Gee wished everyone a Happy Lunar Year and announced the upcoming <br /> event on February 4, 2012 at the Courthouse Plaza at 11:00 a.m. He invited all to come <br /> and said that this event will be in partnership with the History Museum. He announced <br /> an exciting program and said this was all possible due to the sponsorships. <br /> Vice Mayor Gee also announced the Redwood Shores Association Annual meeting will <br /> be on Wednesday February 8 and the Mayor is scheduled to speak. <br /> Council Member Pierce attended the League of CA Cities conference. She appreciates <br /> that the cities were not on the hit list in the Governor's budget proposal thanks to <br /> Proposition 22. <br /> Council Member Ira thanked Council Member Pierce for her work on Proposition 22 and <br /> working with the League. He believes this is a good thing and he believes the courts <br /> did the right thing. Mr. Ira wants to go regional, working together and he welcomes <br /> solutions. <br /> Mayor Aguirre spoke about the meandering boundaries of the city and how it gets mixed <br /> up. She thanked Vice Mayor Gee for his work on the Lunar Year and how this has been <br /> a solo effort on his part. She added that Redwood City was asked to be part of a <br /> Mayor's Design Institute at the University of Houston, Texas. She said she will be <br /> presenting February 1 through February 3 at the University of Houston one of our <br /> projects. <br /> D. City Manager (Oral) Update <br /> Dr. Bell noted that the 2011 national ratings for libraries were released. Redwood City's <br /> Downtown Library received a rating of 5 stars with that being the highest score. He <br /> complimented Mr. Dave Genesy on the work he does to make this a reality. <br /> 10.
