Swearing in Planning Commission Appointee - Silvia Vonderlinden, <br /> City Clerk <br /> Silvia Vonderlinden, City Clerk swore in Mr. Shawn White the newly <br /> appointed Planning Commissioner. <br /> B Proclamation: In Recognition of February 2012 as American Heart <br /> Month - presented by Alicia Aguirre, Mayor to Diane Howard, former <br /> Mayor <br /> Mayor Aguirre presented the proclamation to former Mayor Howard for her <br /> work with the American Heart Association. Ms. Howard then shared her <br /> personal experience with heart disease. <br /> C. Proclamation: In Recognition of the Pacific Athletic Club's Aquatic <br /> Staff - James Skinner, Fire Chief <br /> Fire Chief Skinner recognized the young adults who saved a life because of <br /> their training and teamwork. He expressed his sincere thanks for their <br /> determination and ability to save a life. One of the recipients was present. <br /> D. Presentation: Police Department - J. R. Gamez, Police Chief <br /> Chief Gamez shared key accomplishments and initiatives. He noted that <br /> there were no homicides in 2011. He outlined the benefits of grant funding <br /> received by the Police Department. Chief Gamez recognized the reserve <br /> Police Officers (nine participants) who donated 20 hours a month to assist <br /> the Police workforce in making this community a safer please. He then <br /> highlighted community partnerships and outreach through social media <br /> outlets. He provided details on an organizational analysis he is conducting <br /> of the Police Department and how he is conducting vertical meetings with the <br /> team. <br /> Various Council Members thanked the Chief for the presentation and Mr. <br /> Cesena and Hernandez for their work as interims. The Council appreciated <br /> the presentation and all the innovation and care the Chief brings in. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> David McCallum, representing the Redwood Creek Preservation Trust, provided two <br /> handouts to Council (on file) and said he is a resident of Docktown for 12 years. He <br /> spoke about the constant cleanup efforts residents have done over the years and their <br /> latest cleanup effort for creek when rain causes trash and debris to come down. They <br /> have called it "Romancing the Creek". For the last three years many volunteers have <br /> come out to clean and also enjoy music, and food. His hope is that others will join them <br /> in getting a jump start on a spring clean up. <br /> One Council Member said that Mr. Mc Callum gave several Council Members a tour of <br /> the creek that they found valuable and he confirmed that tours of the creek are available <br /> CITY COUNCIL February 6, 2012 <br /> MEETING MINUTES PAGE 2 <br />
