6.1.A. - Page 2
5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY
A. Swearing in Boards, Commissions and Committees' Appointees -
Silvia Vonderlinden, City Clerk
City Clerk Vonderlinden swore in newly Council appointed Boards, Commissions and
Committees' Members.
6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR
David McCallum, a resident of the Docktown area and representing the Redwood City
Preservation Trust, spoke about the creek clean-up a few weeks ago and how they
removed approximately 1,800 pounds of garbage out of the creek. They have been
cleaning the creek for 12-years. As an ongoing battle, it seems very unsustainable, as
not many people realize the amount of garbage that's thrown there. They are in need of
help to prevent the flow of waste coming down the creek. He thanked the city and
Recology for their support and asked Council for help.
Ralph Garcia spoke about budget cut backs and his concerns with two businesses on
Main Street in regards to the zoning. He opined that there should not be nonretail on
the ground floors of buildings, because a few look like they are empty with blacked
out/tinted windows. He stated that a lot of inerchants would appreciate the two
businesses, with blacked out/tinted windows, be informed that it is unacceptable.
M/S Ira/Seybert to approve the Consent Calendar, except for agenda item 6.1 F, but on
item 6.1 B the amount is "not to exceed" what is specified in the recommendation.
One Council Member spoke about item 6.1 B and how he is disappointed how this is
being handled. Another Council Member noted she had gotten some emails on the cost
of this. Dr. Bell commented that staff went through an RFP process but only one bid
was received. Mr. Gibbons confirmed the statements adding that this is not a cheap
endeavor. Dr. Bell suggested that this be a parcel that be addressed through the other
item on the Consent Calendar on city property. Mr. Gibbons explained this is a "not to
exceed" amount.
The motion carried unanimously by electronic vote.
Council Member Pierce said she is a member of Bay Island Aquatic Center and she will
recuse herself on this matter.
M/S Seybert/Bain to approve Consent Calendar item 6.1 F. Motion carried 6-0 by
electronic vote with Council Member Pierce recused.
1. Section - Motion(s)
A.
