6.1.A. - Page 27 <br /> 5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> Vice Mayor Gee requested that Mayor Aguirre give him the floor and asked her to <br /> meet him at the podium. Mayor Aguirre was presented with a proclamation from <br /> her colleagues on being selected as "Woman of the Year" by Assembly Member <br /> Richard Gordon. She was honored at a ceremony in Sacramento at the State <br /> Capitol and the City Council wanted to publicly recognize what an honor this is for <br /> Redwood City. Vice Mayor Gee also presented the Mayor with a bouquet of red <br /> roses. Mayor Aguirre was surprised and grateful for the unexpected recognition. <br /> She noted it was an honor to represent Redwood City. <br /> A. Proclamation - In honor of Stell Bahrami, Miss Redwood City/San <br /> Mateo County - Alicia C. Aguirre, Mayor and Nancy Radcliffe, Representative <br /> from the Soroptimist Club <br /> Mayor Aguirre presented the proclamation to Ms. Redwood City explaining the <br /> academic achievements of Ms. Bahrami. The recipient explained her platform of <br /> "Dreams not Drugs" and she opined that the Ms. America Organization will help <br /> her disseminate this endeavor. Mayor Aguirre, recognized Mr. Paul Sanfilipo for <br /> all his work over the years in support of this organization. Ms. Radcliffe also <br /> thanked the members of the Peninsula Celebration Association, the Vice Mayor, <br /> the City Council and other community partners. Ms. Radcliffe thanked the current <br /> present and past president of the Soroptimist Club for all their work. She also <br /> thanked Dr. Bell for his participation as a judge at the event. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Ralph Garcia spoke about a smoke shop on Main Street and his concerns regarding the <br /> cigar smokers smoking outside on Broadway. He questioned if there is an ordinance <br /> that applies to this situation where people cannot smoke within a certain number of feet <br /> of a doorway outside, as opposed to keeping smokers indoors. <br /> M/S Seybert/Bain to move the Consent Calendar except 6.1 B. Motion carried 6-0 by <br /> electronic vote with Council Member Ira absent. <br /> Mayor Aguirre noted she will need to recuse herself on agenda item 61.B. <br /> Council Member Bain addressed agenda item 6.3 A and he is excited about being able <br /> to keep up this area of the City. He thanked city staff like Marilyn Harang and Joe <br /> Simitian's office for all their support. Mayor Aguirre read the items being approved on <br /> Consent Calendar. <br /> Mayor Aguirre exited the Chambers. <br /> M/S Seybert/Bain to approve agenda item 6.1 B. Motion carried by electronic vote <br /> with Council Member Ira absent and Mayor Aguirre recused. <br /> Alan Bygones spoke regarding item 6.3D, Water Connection and Service - 698 Edgecliff <br /> Way, in unincorporated San Mateo County, CA, and how Council had pulled the item <br /> from the previous agenda and allowed staff to work with him and his neighbors <br /> regarding their concerns.
