To the Honorable Mayor and City Counc, <br /> <br /> From the City Managel <br /> <br />April 1, 2002 . <br /> <br />Subject <br />Department of Conservation Funding for Promotion of Beverage Container Recycling <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />Staff recommends that the City Council adopt a resolution approving the submittal of a <br />funding request form to the State Department of Conservation for a grant to promotf~ <br />beverage container recycling and litter cleanup. Staff also recommends approval <br />authorizing the South Bayside Waste Management Authority (SBWMA) to complete <br />necessary forms, implement programs, and provide information to the Department 0f <br />Conservation upon request. <br /> <br />Background <br />State Senate Bill 332 requires the Department of Conservation to distribute funds annuall <br />to eligible cities and counties for beverage container recycling and litter cleanup activitie., <br />The funds must be used for the collection and recycling of beverage containers at publi <br />areas, residential communities or schools, or may be used to educate the public aboL <br />beverage container recycling and litter prevention. <br /> <br /> Redwood City grant funds be pooled with other SBWM~ <br />Staff <br /> recommends <br /> that <br /> the <br />jurisdictions to be used for public education, increased multi-family recycling, anti <br />promotion of beverage container recycling throughout the SBWMA service area. Kathlee~ <br />Gallagher, Recycling Programs Manager for the SBWMA, will administer the combine~ <br />grants to the benefit of participating cities. Ms. Gallagher will also attend to a <br />administrative responsibilities associated with this grant. <br /> <br />The funding request form is required to be submitted by April 30, 2002. <br /> <br />Fiscal Impact <br />The City will receive $43,518 from the state, which will be used in conjunction with other <br />SBVVMA members to promote beverage container recycling. <br /> / <br /> <br />Brian Pdnty Edward Everett <br />Director of Finance and Financial City Manager <br />Planning <br /> <br /> <br />
