Additionally, the City's water rates support the operation and maintenance of the City's water system, including labor, replacement and improvements (capital projects) for the water system, and the cost of support provided by other City departments. The amount by which water charges at any particular property will be affected by these increases depends on the size of the meter connection (in the case of commercial property) and the amount of water consumed. Proposed new sewer rates The City of Redwood City staff has recommended that the basic sanitary sewer service charge be increased. The City's sewer utility is self-supporting, funded primarily by sewer service charges. The sewer rate increase is primarily due to increased costs for the City's share of operations, maintenance, and capital improvementsatthe South Bayside System Authority (SBSA) regional wastewatertreatment plant, which processes and disposes of the City sewage. Additionally, the City's sewer rate supports the operations and maintenance costs, including labor, replacement and improvements (capital projects) for the City's sewer collection system and the cost of support provided by other City departments.
