ATTACHMENT THREE
6.4.A. - Page 12

Redwood
Cl t Cellfornle
 fountletl1861
Notice of Proposed Increases in Water & Sewer Rates
The City of Redwood City staff has recommended an increase in waterservice charges and consumption
rates, primarily due to a projected 10% increase in the cost of wholesale water from the City and County
of San Francisco. Additionally, the City's water rates support the operation and maintenance of the City's
water system, including labor, replacement and improvements (capital projects) for the water system,
and the cost of support provided by other City departments. The proposed increases are as follows:
• Increase monthly residential Basic Service Charge from $19.64 to $22.00, effective July 1, 2012.
• Increase residential consumption rates effective July 1, 2012, as follows:
. . ... -. .
.- .-
0-10 units $2.62 0-10 units $2.93
11-25 units $3.32 11-25 units $3.72
26-50 units $5.43 26-50 units $6.08
51+ units $7.66 51+ units $8.58
• Increase monthly commercial and commercial irriqation Basic Service Charge for a 5/8"
meter from $19.64 to $22.00, effective July 1, 2012.
• Increase monthly commercial and commercial irriqation Basic Service Charges for larger
meters by the same percentage as 5/8" meter increase (12%), effective July 1, 2012.
• Increase commercial water consumption rates effective July 1, 2012, as follows:
. . ... -. .
.- .-
0-15 units $3.32 0-15 units $3.72
16+ units $5.43 16+ units $6.08
• Increase potable irriqation water consumption rates for dedicated landscape irrigation meters
(commercial accounts and some homeowner associations) effective July 1, 2012, as follows:
. . ... -. .
.- .-
0-100% of budget $4.27 0-100% of budget $4.78
101-200% of budget $8.55 101-200% of budget $9.58
>200% of budget $12.82 >200% of budget $14.36
• Increase recycled irrigation water consumption rates for dedicated landscape irrigation meters
(commercial accounts and some homeowner associations) effective July 1, 2012, as follows:
. . ... -. .
.- .-
0 of consumption $4.27 0 of consumption $4.78
(*Recycled water customers will continue to receive a 25% discount on water charges.)
The amount by which water charges at any particular property will be affected by these increases
depends on the size of the meter connection (in the case of commercial property) and the amount of
water consumed.
Proposed new sewer rates
The City of Redwood City staff has recommended that the basic sanitary sewer service charge be
increased. The City's sewer utility is self-supporting, funded primarily by sewer service charges. The
sewer rate increase is primarily due to increased costs for the City's share of operations, maintenance,
and capital improvementsatthe South Bayside System Authority (SBSA) regional wastewatertreatment
plant, which processes and disposes of the City sewage. Additionally, the City's sewer rate supports the
operations and maintenance costs, including labor, replacement and improvements (capital projects) for
the City's sewer collection system and the cost of support provided by other City departments.
Proposed Water and Sewer Rate Increase March 2Q 2012
