Prohibitions <br /> The use of pesticides ar�d quick release fer�ilizers shall be minimized, and the principles of integrated <br /> pest management(IPM}followed: <br /> 1. Employ non�chemical contrals (biological, physical and cultural controls) befor� using <br /> chamicals to treat a pest problem. <br /> 2. Prune piants properiy and at the appropriate time of year. <br /> 3. Pro�ide adequate irrigation for landscape plants. Da not over water. <br /> 4. Limit fertilizer use unl�ss soil testing indicates a deficiency. Slow-release or organie <br /> fertilizer is preferabie. Check with municipality for specific requirements. <br /> 5. Pest control should a�oid harming nan-target organisrr�s, or negati�ely afFecting air and <br /> water quality and public health, Apply chernical cantrols only wher� rrtonitoring indicates <br /> that pre�er�tative and non-chemical methods are not keepir�g pests below acceptable <br /> le�els. When pesticides are requir�d, apply the least toxic and the least persistent <br /> pesticide that wil� provide adequate pest control. Do not app�y pesticides on a <br /> prescheduled basis. <br /> 6. Sweep up spill�d fertilizer and pesticides. Do not wash away or bury such spills. <br /> 7. Do not o�er apply pesticide. Spray only where the infestation exists. �ollow the <br /> rnar�ufacturer's instructions for mixir�g ar�d appiying maferials. <br /> 8. On�y licensed, trained pesticide applicatars shafl apply pesticides. <br /> 9. Apply pesticides at the apprapriate time to rnaxir�ize their effecti�eness and mir�irnize tl�e <br /> likelihood of discharging pesticides into runoff. With the exception of pre-emergent <br /> pesticides, avoid application if rain is�xpected. <br /> 10. Mosquito larvicides shall be applied only <br /> when absolutely necessary, as ir�dicated by the SMCMAD, and then only by a Eicensed professional <br /> or contractor.
