DES:dft ~/23/94 (018/10) <br /> 0 R I G I N A L 4/11/94 <br /> <br /> O R D I N A N C E N O. 2076 <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF FIRST <br /> AMENDMENT TO FRANCHISE AGREEMENT WITH BROWNING-FERRIS <br /> INDUSTRIES OF CALIFORNIA, INC., FOR RECYCLING SERVICES <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Ordinance No. 1980, adopted <br />September 26, 1988, the City of Redwood City entered into that <br />certain agreement entitled, "Agreement for Collection of <br />Recyclable Materials", effective as of August 25, 1988, (the <br />"Recycling Franchise Agreement"); and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this City and certain other public agencies in the <br />County of San Mateo have entered into a Joint Exercise of Powers <br />Agreement pursuant to the provisions of Government Code Code <br />Section 6500 et seq., establishing the South Bayside Transfer <br />Station Authority (the "Authority"); and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Browning-Ferris Industries ("BFI"), pursuant to <br />agreement with the Authority, operates a solid waste transfer <br />station facility for the processing of solid waste collected by <br />BFI from the jurisdictions of the member agencies of the <br />Authority; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BFI proposes to develop a recycling processing <br />facility in conjunction with the operation of the transfer <br />station with the capability of diverting from sanitary landfill <br />operations some thirty percent (30%) of the solid wastes <br />collected from the Authority's member agency jurisdictions; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, BFI further proposes to develop and operate a <br />"Green Waste" facility to divert from sanitary landfill <br />operations some twenty percent (20%) of the solid waste collected <br /> <br /> <br />
