8.A. - Page 338 Stateme�t on Fin�e�-Avenue Aesthetics T am a Fiz�gerAvenue resident or neighbor,who waiks, bicycIes or atherwise enjoys the FingerAvenue streetscape, T have seen the plans for the McGowan nine-lot developinent,and conclude that it wiil substantially degraae the existing visual character and qUality of the site and its surroundings. What is Empa�tant aesthetically about my neighbortiood is the semi-n,�ral character of the north side o�'FingerAvenuc, with ma�z�y homes set far back fram tI�e s�reet. The appearance of la�•ge amounts of open space with mature,old growth trees,pro�id�s a striking backdrop to the homes. The car�trast between tlie nortli side of Fiyager Avenue and its south side,with its many qaaint, ear�y 20�h century bUngalaws and cattages,is something t�at's unique to Redwoad City and treasurea by its residents. Examptes of how the Finger Avenue Project significantly degrades the aest.�ietics of our neighborhood are: + Construction of two hames witli wide two-stai�y facades set back the minimum allowable dis�ance from the street. Thex+e are no houses that large set that c�ose to the street anywhere in our neighborhood, ' • Nowhere else on Finger Avenue are homes this large placed on �OtS t�'115 5iri8II. • All of the homes are of sinyitar size and all two-sto�y, as opposed to the m'rx of home sizes and heights thak are representati�►e of tl�e nox•th side of Finger Avenue, • Most o�these nine I�omes wil� be viewable fram t��e public street. There is little open space and the homes are only set back a small distance from the nu�•��ow diat senfes them (some from 3ft—6ft from the alleyway.) Nowhere in our neighborliood are houses situated in this fashion. • A development this densely packed is incompatible with t��e presence of la�e matz.�re trees on the site. The eventual �oss of these trees will be irr$versib�e, • Tlie breakup of the nortli side of Finger Ave. by creating two new intersections, Tlie narraw a�leyway built far tlie develapment fails to integrate with Finger Avenue by not ha�ving a sidewaik or glanting strip against the roadway. + Tt�e ane-way al�eyway will require sh•est sigz�s on FingerA�e to direct kraffic, furtlier compromising the character of the north side of the street.
