Proclamation: In Recognition of Dr. Amelito Enriquez - Alicia Aguirre, <br /> Mayor <br /> Mayor Aguirre presented the proclamation to Dr. Amelito and thanked him for his <br /> academic work as well as the partnerships he has forged which ultimately provided <br /> better opportunities for student. She noted his impact on the life and careers of <br /> students at Canada College. Dr. Amelito was appreciative of the proclamation. <br /> B. Proclamation: In Recognition of January 2012 as National Human <br /> Trafficking Awareness Month - Betty Ann Boeving, Executive Director of <br /> the BAATC (Bay Area Anti-trafficking Coalition) <br /> Mayor Aguirre and Council Member Seybert presented the proclamation to Ms. <br /> Boeving. Ms. Boeving provided details and statistics on the issue and she incited all to <br /> get involved and bring awareness to human trafficking. <br /> C. Presentation: Status of Redwood City's Economic Development - <br /> Susan Barnes, Economic Development Coordinator <br /> Susan Barnes, Economic Development Coordinator, presented a status update on what <br /> has been accomplished to date, outcomes of focus group meetings and key themes. <br /> She addressed the need for branding, signage and the need for a pervasive awareness <br /> that economic development is an "attitude" and not just a "strategy". She provided <br /> details on the initiatives she has engaged in and shared data on how to read the <br /> volatility of the business world. Ms. Barnes enumerated the next steps on her Action <br /> Plan. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Robert Henderson stated he had previously addressed Council and opined that the City <br /> is not adhering to its own rules and regulations regarding the parking lot across the <br /> street from City Hall and located behind the Library. In his perspective, the Charter was <br /> circumvented and he is dissatisfied with the response he received from city staff. <br /> Mayor Aguirre informed Mr. Henderson that the City Manager's office would follow up. <br /> M/S Pierce/Seybert to approve the Consent Calendar as submitted. Motion carried <br /> unanimously by roll call vote. <br /> Council Member Pierce noted that agenda item 6.1.C. is an example of different <br /> organizations partnering together to make the shuttle service feasible.
