Waive First Reading and Introduce An Ordinance Repealing Existing Article
III (Cable Television Systems) and Enacting New Article III to Chapter 11
Relating to Video Service Franchises
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY
REPEALING EXISTING ARTICLE III (CABLE TELEVISION SYSTEMS) AND
ENACTING NEW ARTICLE III TO CHAPTER 11 RELATING TO STATE VIDEO
SERVICE FRANCHISES
B. Docktown Area Update. (613)
Recommendation:
Accept report.
Mr. Ekern, Director of Community Development, presented the report (on file), saying
that he continues to get interest about this area from the development community. He
noted that staff would like to come back with a proposal for a Precise Plan for the area
and a community process. He noted that recreational use is not specifically called out in
the grant from the State. Vice Mayor Gee noted that the term "Inner Harbor" might be a
little broader, and terminology matters as we define "how big" or "how small" this
Precise Plan might be. Mr. Ekern concurred that such terminology is more appealing
and more descriptive. One Council Member wanted staff to pursue "green marinas".
Mayor Aguirre said this matter was presented as a project at the Mayor's Institute and
she looks forward to seeing a Plan for this area.
Public Comment
James Jonas, a resident of Docktown, made positive comments about the large and
enthusiastic response and work for the clean-up. He went on to state that the Precise
Plan is a great document for engagement. He said he looked at the report and
questioned why recreation was not mentioned, but he looks forward to working through
the process.
Carol Wong, a resident of Redwood Shores, opined that this is an opportunity for
another jewel in Redwood City for the waterFront area. She spoke about her excitement
in hearing the comments and her belief we are one step closer with respect to General
Plan. Ms. Wong also said that the, mixed use would bring in retail and enrich the
community. She also shared her thoughts about the Precise Plan in terms of the "Inner
Harbor."
C. "Birds on Broadway" Public Art Sculpture in Downtown Redwood City.
(505)
1.
