Council Member Bain attended an Emergency Services Council Meeting where a
"status quo" budget was approved. He also attended a press conference with
Congresswoman Eshoo to get dedicated broadband for first responders. He spoke
about the creation of a grid that will assist such efforts. He also attended the Progress
Seminar and one of the sessions focused on Climate Change and three items were
touched upon 1) Street lights, 2) Electric Vehicles and, 3) Solar Panels and how these
three items have impacts on the carbon footprint. He would like to spearhead these
efforts and work with Mayor Aguirre and Council Member Pierce on these topics.
Mayor Aguirre thanked Council Member Bain for representing the City with Anna
Eshoo's Office and she will ponder about the subcommittee and bring it back to Council
at a future meeting.
Vice Mayor Gee thanked all those who celebrated Earth Day at Seaport Center, he said
there was a great crowd. He also noted that Arya Restaurant is opening tomorrow at the
Theater complex and he thanked Broadway by the Bay for the great show. He also
thanked Genentech for hosting three days of ineetings downtown.
Council Member Foust noted that Paul Rogers wrote an article on the Restoration of
Bair Island and how Redwood City has been so active on this, but it is unfortunate that
the City of Redwood City was not mentioned on the article. She wanted to
acknowledge the role Redwood City played on this matter by hiring the first consultant
that began the work. She also sits on the San Francisco Bay Area Restoration Authority
Board and reported that they are trying to find funds to restore the 33,000 acres of
publicly owned land.
Council Member Pierce attended the Sierra Club Health Communities Event and she
appreciated a presentation on initiatives related to health and CO2 reductions and how
our General Plan and our Precise Plan already incorporate these actions. She will share
the information with the Council because it was significant.
Council Member Seybert noted that the Redwood City Education Foundation will be
putting together a fundraiser and there will be a HEART (Housing Endowment and
Regional Trust) luncheon at Facebook where the Vice President of People will be
addressing those present.
Mayor Aguirre noted that next Sunday there is a Kermes -"Dia del Nino" and this Friday
there is a Teens in Action event in the evening at Courthouse Square. She also
attended a political leadership training last week and it was a most successful event
with many local leaders. She said this was mostly for women with political aspirations.
Recently, she also met with a young student who wanted to meet with the Mayor to
discuss historical matters.
C.
