Council directed staff to have the presentation posted up on the website and at the Pofice Department's website. One Council Member thanked the Chief and his department for this type of work. The Mayor noted that it is possible that we will be more dependent on other local programs which might be cut. The Chief said that what is fair to say is that the impacts are unknown at this time. 6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR Lilia Ledesma, President elect of the Redwood City Rotary Club, thanked the Council for its support of the Rotary's Tuesday Evening Farmers Market. She noted the great support received from the following departments: City Attorney, City Manager, Police, Fire, and Community Development. She invited all to the grand opening on Tuesday, May 1St. The market will run from May through September with fresh local foods and live music. E. Craig Sapp, representing Occupy Saltworks, spoke in opposition to the Saltworks project because of increased urban sprawl and traffic. He said they agree there is a need for more affordable housing in Redwood City along the transit corridors, such as 101, CalTrain and the EI Camino Real. His concerns included smart growth, the environment, mobile homes, higher potential for flooding and liquefaction, the salt ponds, fair and affordable housing, protecting the working class and communities of color, economically disadvantaged residents in mobile homes at the proposed site, protecting local commerce and union jobs, and industry at the Port of Redwood City. James Lee, representing Occupy Saltworks, spoke on their perception of a lack of honesty in government, the lack of an independent Environmental Impact Report (EIR), the area being a liquefaction zone, flooding and sea level rise, and the lack of sustainable water supply away from 101, Caltrain and EI Camino. He said they are not reactionaries; do not suffer from not in my back yard syndrome; their group includes people with backgrounds in environment, labor, and marine science; and, they oppose the project based on the lack of affordable housing; the lack of an independent EIR; and, he questioned the proposed advisory vote made by one Council Member and the City Council's stance on the project. Brett Garrett, representing Occupy Saltworks, said John Bruno is the Senior Vice President of DMB in charge of the proposed plan and he is also Director of the Redwood City Chamber of Commerce and opined that there are monied interests that have infiltrated the city. Mr. Garrett questioned the proposed advisory vote and opined that big interests would try to influence the people of Redwood City to vote in their favor and it would not reflect opinions of the people. He said it is time for those who care to fight back and take a stand to oppose the Plan, the EIR (environmental impact report), and demand that the salt ponds be restored back to natural space and returned to the bay.
