She <br /> said they serve more than one thousand people a year many of them are children, females <br /> and males, from Redwood City. <br /> Andy Frisch, representing Kainos, said they will not be asking for support this year or next <br /> year. He spoke about his personal sense of civic pride, wisdom, leadership, and he opined <br /> that these services be treated the same as all other vital core services to the community <br /> and the City. <br /> Anna Olsen, Associate Director of Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San <br /> Mateo Counties and a Redwood City resident, expressed her gratitude for past funding and <br /> said they will not be seeking funding in the next round. She provided detailed information <br /> about their services and noted that most of their calls for help come from Redwood City. <br /> Brian Greenberg, Director of Shelter Network, introduced Heather Barbar, a Redwood City <br /> resident, who said she is a single mom with three children. She said that two years ago <br /> she was supporting herself and her family as an executive assistant, but then got laid off, <br /> subsequently got odd jobs, went through her savings, and ended up at the Redwood City <br /> family house. They have helped her so that she is now training to become a medical <br /> assistant, has a part-time job, saving some money, and has a stable place for her family. <br /> Brian Greenberg, with Shelter Nefinrork, spoke about their great network providers and <br /> provided information on the families they serve and how the number on their waiting list <br /> has increased, with about 20% to 25% from Redwood City. <br /> One Council Member inquired about process and how it will impact the HSFA if these <br /> funds are delayed. Mayor Ira said that it would probably be April when this would be <br /> addressed. Ms. Chin said that she can look at the schedule with the City Manager and <br /> then they can line up a timeline that matches up with the city's upcoming budget process. <br /> Ms. Chin said that she can reset the dates. One Council Member said that he respects <br /> that the Council wants to see the bigger picture. This Council Member appreciated the <br /> various arguments, emotional, logical and need based. He spoke highly of the HHCC and <br /> its work leading to the current recommendation. <br /> M/S Gee/Seybert to continue this item to date certain, that aligns with the citywide budget <br /> discussion, at which time this will be decided on. <br /> Motion carried unanimously by electronic vote.
