(304) <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> By motion, express Council support of providing municipal police services to the <br /> City of San Carlos and authorize the City Manager to prepare and submit a <br /> proposal to provide such services. <br /> Peter Ingram, City Manager, presented a brief overview of the reasons why this would <br /> be a good way to show regional leadership. He added that we have been doing this for <br /> other jurisdictions in other ways (fleet management and Informational Technology <br /> services). He believes this will benefit Redwood City in the long run. <br /> One Council Member thought this is a positive approach and supports the initiative. He <br /> did not believe that the economy is going to get better in the next 10 years and so it is <br /> important to explore opportunities with sister cities. Another Council Member wanted us <br /> to focus on the strengths and the level of service of what we have to offer and show <br /> that we can provide an entirely higher level of service and still save money. He believes <br /> this is about matching what we do well with what San Carlos' needs are. Another <br /> Council Member believes that shared services and consolidations are the way of the <br /> future. This Council Member believes that this could be the beginning of a discussion <br /> of how services are delivered to the community. <br /> Vice Mayor Aguirre agreed that consolidation is one of our major goals. Mayor Ira said <br /> that this is a brave approach for San Carlos and so he finds this a courageous act <br /> which he supports.
