5. SPECIAL ORDER OF THE DAY <br /> A. Poster Contest Presentation — Justin Ezell, Public Works Superintendent <br /> Mr. Ezell thanked Council, staff, teachers and students for their support and <br /> participation and he noted that this has been one of their most successful water <br /> conservation programs. <br /> Mayor Ira presented a certificate to each student. Mr. Ezell then introduced a special <br /> guest, Mr. H20 Joe, who met with the children and Council joined them. Mayor <br /> expressed his appreciation for the program to staff. <br /> 6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Carmela Walls, representing HIP (Human Investment Project) Housing, expressed her <br /> thanks for continued city support and provided information on the housing assistance <br /> they provide to over 1,000 individuals each year. She also presented Council with <br /> copies of their 2011 calendar to enjoy. <br /> Paula Dresden, Creative Director of Bethlehem AD invited Council and all residents to <br /> visit their living interactive nativity scene. She said visitors will encounter tax collectors, <br /> animals, wise men and women (including Council dressed up as wise men or women), <br /> centurions, and live enactments. The dates are December 21, 22, and 23, 2011, <br /> Tuesday through Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and people are invited to come dressed <br /> up in costume. <br /> Stacie Chen, Editor of the soon-to-be launched Redwood City Patch newspaper, said <br /> they will be covering only Redwood City events beginning a week from today, <br /> December 13, 2011 and invited people to contact her regarding any news items. She <br /> said she will be in attendance at all Council meetings. <br /> M/S Bain/Aguirre to approve the Consent Calendar, except pulled item 6.1 F. <br /> Council Member Foust spoke to item 6.1 D, expressing her appreciation to PAL (Police <br /> Activities League) and to the police department for their work to make PAL sustainable <br /> long-term and for their youth services work in the community. <br /> Council Member Gee spoke to item 6.1 C and how the Redwood City Mid Point Caltrain <br /> shuttle has been one of most successful shuttles in the county with increasing ridership <br /> levels. He invited interested employers or employees to sign up at any time to <br /> participate in alternative transportation. Motion carried unanimously by electronic <br /> vote. <br /> M/S Seybert/Pierce to approve item 6.1 F.
