6.1.E. - Page 1
RE PO RT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the Cit Mana er
September 10, 2012
SUBJECT
License Agreement with Peninsula Family Service to Operate Programs and Services at
the Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center
RECOMMENDATION
Approve and authorize the City Manager to execute the License Agreement with
Peninsula Family Service to Operate Programs and Activities at the Fair Oaks Adult
Activity Center.
BACKGROUND
In 2000, Peninsula Family Service (formerly known as Family Service Agency of San
Mateo County) was selected to partner with the Redwood City Parks, Recreation, and
Community Services Department to operate the Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center
(formerly known as the Fair Oaks Senior Center). Since that time, Peninsula Family
Service has developed a program with strong emphasis on health and wellness for
adults age 50 and older with services offered free of charge to those age 60 and over.
Services include breakfast and lunch program, weekly grocery program, garden club,
health screenings, a variety of exercise classes, art and music classes, bingo, support
groups, computer lab, and monthly special events.
A formal Agreement for Operation of the Fair Oaks Senior Center Program and
Revocable Permit were executed in July 2001. The term of this original agreement was
through June 30, 2006. Since that time this successful partnership has been operating
without a new formal agreement.
ANALYSIS
The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department has been very satisfied
with Peninsula Family Service's partnership in operating the Fair Oaks Adult Activity
Center and recommends continued partnership for the foreseeable future.
The proposed License Agreement between the City of Redwood City and Peninsula
Family Service will replace the original Agreement for Operation and Revocable Permit.
The term of the agreement is five (5) years but may be extended for additional terms by
mutual agreement of the parties.
