6.3.A. - Page 1
RE PO RT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the Cit Mana er
September 24, 2012
SUBJECT
Final Acceptance-Stulsaft Park Road Repairs
RECOMMENDATION
Accept, by motion, the Stulsaft Park Road Repairs Project and authorize the release of
bonds and retention according to city procedures.
BACKGROUND
On January 9, 2012, Council awarded the construction contract for the Stulsaft Park
Road Repairs to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, McNabb Construction,
Inc. of Lafayette, for $107,828.
ANALYSIS
Stulsaft Park is a 42-acre regional natural park in Redwood City that has gravel and dirt
maintenance and fire roads. This project widened and re-graded three areas of the
roadway where erosion had occurred. Three different methods were used to widen the
roadway including, cutting back the hillside, installing soldier piles and lagging retaining
wall and constructing a keystone retaining wall.
The Stulsaft Park Road Repairs Project was successfully completed in accordance with
the plans and specifications and within the time allowed for a total contract cost of
$118,341.30. Change orders were issued for a total of $10,513.30 which included bid
item quantity adjustments for the soldier pile and lagging retaining wall, the keystone
wall and the roadway widening; and for modifying the chain link fencing. The changes
represented 9.75% of the original contract amount of $107,828.
The project was substantially completed on August 29, 2012 and the roadway was
reopened to the public.
ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to accept the project, or authorize the release of bonds and
retention which would be contrary to the terms of the contract and prior Council action.
