7.A. - Page 2
ANALYSIS
The proposed use of these grant funds will allow the department to take advantage of
the features on the latest model of the Glock 22 "Generation 4" pistol. Attaching a light
to a weapon accomplishes two goals: 1) the light is readily available to use when an
officer is required to deploy his or her sidearm; and 2) it frees the officer's support hand
for tasks other that holding a detached flashlight. The integrated light increases both
officer safety and public safety by enhancing an officer's ability to see and properly
identify a target and determine if it is truly a threat. It also allows the officer to have their
support hand free to operate a radio, manipulate other equipment, or have the option to
control an uncooperative subject without having to relinquish either their light or
sidearm.
ALTERNATIVES
City Council may choose not to approve the application for this grant funding.
FISCAL IMPACT
Approval of this resolution will have no significant fiscal impact. The grant would cover
all but $474 of the cost of the purchase. This amount will be paid by the police
department.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
Not Applicable
 '
STEVE BLANC
ADMINISTRATIVE SERGEANT

J.R.
